seapower

Maritime military strength

Seapower is naval strength—a nation's capacity to project military force across oceans through warships, submarines, and supporting infrastructure.

A country with seapower can protect trade routes, blockade enemies, and land forces on distant shores.

The term also refers to nations possessing such capability: Britain was the dominant seapower of the nineteenth century.
