sea trout
Saltwater brown trout
Sea trout is a name applied to several different fish depending on region.
In Europe, it typically refers to the brown trout when it adopts a migratory lifestyle, spending time in the sea before returning to fresh water to spawn.
In North America, particularly along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, sea trout usually means a weakfish or spotted seatrout—members of the drum family prized by anglers.
We caught several sea trout in the bay this morning.
