chinook salmon

Pacific's largest swimmer

Chinook salmon is the largest species of Pacific salmon, prized by commercial and sport fishers for its size and rich flavor.

Also called king salmon, it can exceed fifty pounds.

The fish is native to rivers from Alaska to California and has been introduced elsewhere: The chinook salmon run peaks in late summer. (Capitalized Chinook refers to the Indigenous people or the warm wind.)
