scan lines
Horizontal image bands
Scan lines are the horizontal lines that compose a video image on a screen.
In older televisions and monitors, an electron beam traced across the display line by line, building the picture from top to bottom.
The term persists in digital contexts: The retro filter adds visible scan lines to mimic old CRT monitors.
Scan lines also refer to the artifacts themselves—the thin dark gaps between bright lines that give vintage displays their characteristic look.
