subpixels

RGB display elements

Subpixels are the individual color components that make up a single pixel on a display screen.

Most screens divide each pixel into red, green, and blue subpixels, which combine at varying intensities to produce the full range of visible colors.

Some rendering techniques exploit subpixel arrangement to improve apparent resolution, particularly for text: The text looks sharper with subpixel rendering enabled.
