voxels
Three-dimensional picture elements
Voxels are three-dimensional pixels—the smallest units of volume in a 3D grid, just as pixels are the smallest units of area in a 2D image.
The term combines "volume" and "pixel." Voxels appear in medical imaging like CT scans and MRIs, where they represent tiny cubes of tissue, and in video games with blocky aesthetics: Minecraft's world is built entirely from voxels.
