analog television

Pre-digital broadcast system

Analog television is the original broadcast technology that transmits video and audio as continuous electromagnetic waves, in contrast to the discrete digital signals that replaced it.

Most countries phased out analog broadcasts between 2006 and 2012: My grandmother's old TV stopped working when they switched off the analog signal.

The term now appears mainly in discussions of broadcast history or older equipment.
