screen burn
Permanent image retention
Screen burn is permanent damage to a display where a static image becomes ghosted onto the screen, visible even when the content changes.
It results from uneven wear on phosphors or pixels that displayed the same image for extended periods.
Older plasma and CRT televisions were particularly susceptible; modern screens resist it better but aren't immune.
Also called burn-in.
