regicides

Royal assassination crimes

Regicides are people who kill kings, or the acts of killing kings themselves.

The word covers both the person and the deed.

Historically, it often refers specifically to those who signed the death warrant of Charles I in 1649: The regicides were hunted down after the Restoration.

Any assassination of a monarch qualifies: The conspirators planned the regicide for months.
