abdications

Giving up crowns

Abdications is the plural of abdication, the act of formally giving up a position of power or responsibility.

The word most often applies to monarchs who renounce their thrones: The twentieth century saw several royal abdications.

More broadly, it can describe any surrender of duty or authority: Their abdications of parental responsibility left the children struggling.
