Roundheads

Anti-royalist English faction

Roundheads were supporters of Parliament against King Charles I during the English Civil War (1642–1651).

The name mocked their close-cropped hair, contrasting with the long curls favored by Royalist Cavaliers.

The term now evokes Puritan severity and republican politics in 17th-century England.

The Roundheads ultimately prevailed, and Charles lost his head. (Lowercase roundheads refers to people or insects with round heads.)
