deicide
Slaying a deity
Deicide is the killing of a god.
The term appears most often in Christian theology, referring to the crucifixion of Jesus—historically used to assign collective guilt to the Jewish people, a charge with centuries of violent consequences.
More broadly, deicide can describe any mythological or fictional god-killing: The hero committed deicide when he slew the deity.
The word also names a death metal band known for anti-religious themes.
