blip
Brief screen flash
A blip is a brief, usually small signal or interruption—originally the flash on a radar screen indicating a detected object.
The word extends to any minor fluctuation or momentary deviation from a norm: The market dip was just a blip.
A blip suggests something too brief or insignificant to matter much: a blip in the polls, a blip on the radar.
To blip is to make such a sound or signal, or to briefly interrupt.
