oyster mushroom
Fan-shaped edible fungus
Oyster mushroom is an edible fungus with a fan-shaped cap and short stem, growing in overlapping clusters on dead or dying trees.
Named for its resemblance to an oyster shell, it has a mild flavor and tender texture prized in cooking: Sauté the oyster mushrooms in butter until golden.
One of the easiest wild mushrooms to identify and cultivate.
