pasteurization
Milk safety process
Pasteurization is the process of heating food or beverages to kill harmful microorganisms without significantly altering flavor or nutritional value.
Named for Louis Pasteur, who developed the technique in the 1860s.
Most commonly applied to milk and juice: The dairy uses flash pasteurization.
Unpasteurized products are called raw.
