organ pipe

Church music column

An organ pipe is one of the tubes in a pipe organ that produces sound when air passes through it.

Pipes vary in size from a few inches to over thirty feet, with length determining pitch.

The term extends to anything resembling these tubes: organ pipe cacti grow in tall, parallel columns; organ pipe coral forms similar clusters.
