A cartwheel is a sideways flip where hands and feet touch the ground alternately, arms and legs extended like spokes of a wheel.
Children turn cartwheels on lawns; gymnasts perform them in routines.
The word extends to any wheel-like rotation: The plane cartwheeled across the runway.
A cartwheel is also slang for a large coin, especially the old silver dollar.
