metatarsus

Between ankle, toes

The metatarsus is the middle section of the foot between the ankle and the toes, consisting of five long bones (metatarsals) that form the arch.

In four-legged animals, the metatarsus is the rear portion of the hind foot.

Pain or fractures in this area are common running injuries: a stress fracture in the metatarsus.
