flatfoot
Slang for detective
Flatfoot has two main meanings.
One is a foot condition where the arch is flattened, allowing the entire sole to touch the ground: The army rejected him for flatfoot.
The other is slang for a police officer, especially one walking a beat—the connection being hours spent pounding pavement.
The plural for the condition is flatfeet; for cops, flatfoots.
