cyclothymia

Mild bipolar variant

Cyclothymia is a mood disorder marked by chronic fluctuation between mild depression and mild elation (hypomania).

The swings are less severe than bipolar disorder but more persistent, cycling over months or years without stable periods.

Someone with cyclothymia may seem temperamentally moody rather than clinically ill: She was diagnosed with cyclothymia after years of unexplained ups and downs.
