hypomania
Mania's little sibling
Hypomania is a mood state characterized by elevated energy, reduced need for sleep, racing thoughts, and heightened confidence or irritability—similar to mania but less severe and without the psychotic features or extreme impairment that mania can bring.
It's a clinical term used primarily in psychiatry to describe episodes that occur in bipolar II disorder and cyclothymia.
Someone in a hypomanic state may feel unusually productive or creative, but the elevated mood can tip into recklessness or agitation.
Her hypomania made her take on five new projects in a week.
