jackboot

Tall leather boot

A jackboot is a tall military boot reaching above the knee, historically worn by cavalry and later associated with fascist regimes.

The word now primarily evokes authoritarian oppression: jackbooted thugs, under the jackboot of tyranny.

To describe tactics or enforcement as jackbooted suggests brutal, militaristic force against citizens.
