goose-step

Stiff-legged march

Goose-step is a military marching style where legs swing stiffly forward without bending at the knee, resembling a goose's gait.

Associated most strongly with Nazi Germany and authoritarian regimes, it now carries sinister or fascist connotations: The protesters accused police of goose-stepping toward dictatorship.

As a verb: Soldiers goose-stepped past the reviewing stand.
