Hooked cross symbol
A swastika is a cross with arms bent at right angles, all pointing the same direction.
The symbol appears in ancient cultures worldwide—Hindu, Buddhist, Native American—typically representing good fortune or cosmic order.
But its adoption by Nazi Germany as a symbol of Aryan supremacy has made it, in Western contexts, an emblem of antisemitism and hate: Someone spray-painted a swastika on the synagogue.
