border region
Edge of territory
A border region is the area on either side of a boundary between countries, states, or other territories.
These zones often have distinctive characteristics—mixed cultures, cross-border commerce, or political tensions: The border region between the two countries has its own dialect.
Border regions may be defined loosely by proximity or formally for administrative purposes.
