ironstone

Heavy white china

Ironstone is a hard, iron-rich sedite rock, often mined as iron ore.

The term also refers to a durable, dense ceramic ware developed in 19th-century England as a cheaper alternative to porcelain: grandmother's ironstone pitcher, a set of white ironstone dishes.

Ironstone dinnerware remains popular for its sturdiness and simple aesthetic.
