projectile motion
Arced flight path
Projectile motion is the curved path an object follows when thrown, launched, or otherwise propelled through space under the influence of gravity.
In physics, it's analyzed as the combination of horizontal motion (constant velocity) and vertical motion (constant acceleration due to gravity): We calculated the projectile motion of a cannonball to find where it would land.
The concept applies to everything from basketballs to ballistic missiles.
