spinning top
Gyroscopic children's plaything
A spinning top is a toy designed to balance on a point while rotating rapidly.
You set it spinning by twisting a stem, pulling a string, or pumping a handle, then release it to spin on a surface until friction slows it down.
The term often shortens to just top: The child watched the top wobble and fall.
