iftar
Ramadan evening meal
Iftar is the evening meal that breaks the daily fast during Ramadan.
Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset; iftar marks the moment of breaking that fast, traditionally with dates and water before a larger meal.
The meal is often communal, shared with family, friends, or at mosque gatherings: We're hosting iftar tonight.
