salat
Five daily prayers
Salat is the ritual prayer performed by Muslims five times daily, one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
The prayers follow prescribed movements and recitations, performed facing Mecca: He never missed salat, even when traveling.
Also spelled salah.
The word is Arabic, distinct from the unrelated salat meaning salad in German and some Scandinavian languages.
