husbandman
One who cultivates
A husbandman is a farmer—one who cultivates land and raises crops or livestock.
The word is old-fashioned and literary, largely replaced by farmer in everyday speech.
It derives from husband in its original sense of household manager, not spouse: The husbandman tended his fields from dawn to dusk.
