husbanding
Preserving through frugality
Husbanding is careful management of resources to avoid waste or depletion: husbanding their dwindling supplies, husbanding energy for the final push.
The word comes from husband in its older sense of a household manager or farmer, not a spouse.
Husbandry extends this to animal breeding and agricultural management.
