capuchin

New World monkey

A capuchin is a New World monkey with a cap-like tuft of hair on its head, named for its resemblance to the hooded robes of Capuchin friars.

These small, intelligent primates are often seen in films and as organ grinder companions.

Capuchin also refers to a hooded cloak or a type of pigeon with head feathers resembling a hood.

The capuchin monkey used its nimble fingers to crack open the nut. (Capitalized Capuchin refers to the religious order.)
