highlanders
Upland region inhabitants
Highlanders are people who live in or come from a mountainous region.
The term most often refers to inhabitants of the Scottish Highlands, with their distinct culture, clans, and history: The highlanders fought fiercely at Culloden.
More generally, it describes any mountain-dwelling population: Andean highlanders have adapted to high altitude.
Highland regiments in the British Army are also called highlanders.
