seafolk

People of waves

Seafolk are mythical beings who live in or come from the sea—mermaids, mermen, selkies, and similar creatures of folklore.

The term appears primarily in fantasy literature and gaming: The seafolk emerged from the waves to trade with the coastal villagers.

It can also refer more broadly to people whose lives center on the ocean—fishermen, sailors, or coastal communities with deep maritime traditions.
