mountain pastures
Elevated grazing lands
Mountain pastures are high-altitude grasslands where livestock graze during summer months.
In traditional alpine farming, herders move cattle, sheep, or goats up to mountain pastures when snow melts, then bring them down before winter—a practice called transhumance.
The term evokes pastoral landscapes of the Alps, Pyrenees, or similar ranges: The sound of cowbells drifted across the mountain pastures.
