servicemember

Armed forces member

A servicemember is a person serving in the armed forces—army, navy, air force, marines, or coast guard.

The term is deliberately gender-neutral, replacing older usage like "serviceman": The bill provides healthcare benefits for servicemembers and their families.

Also spelled as two words: service member.
