misfortune
Stroke of hardship
Misfortune is bad luck or an unfortunate event.
It can name the general condition of being unlucky or a specific instance: a series of misfortunes, the misfortune of being born into poverty.
To have the misfortune to do something is to be unlucky enough to experience it: I had the misfortune to witness the whole disaster.
