Settlers of Catan

Island resource game

Settlers of Catan is a multiplayer board game in which players collect and trade resources—wood, brick, sheep, wheat, ore—to build settlements and roads on a hexagonal island.

First published in Germany in 1995, it helped launch the modern board game renaissance.

Players compete for territory while negotiating trades: I'll give you two wheat for one ore.

Now officially called just Catan.
