color gamut
Displayable shade spectrum
A color gamut is the range of colors that a device or system can reproduce or display.
Different screens, printers, and color spaces have different gamuts—some capture vivid reds that others cannot, or deeper blues.
When an image contains colors outside the gamut of a printer, those colors must be approximated.
Professional photographers and designers pay close attention to gamut when moving work between devices.
