hauberk

Knight's metal shirt

A hauberk is a long coat of chain mail, typically reaching to the knees and often including sleeves.

It was the principal body armor of medieval European knights and soldiers from roughly the 10th through 14th centuries: The knight donned his hauberk before battle.

The term now appears mainly in historical fiction and fantasy.
