chain mail
Interlocking ring armor
Chain mail is armor made of interlocking metal rings, worn historically by soldiers and knights for protection against bladed weapons.
The rings form a flexible mesh that allows movement while deflecting cuts and stabs: a knight in chain mail.
Also called simply mail.
The spelling chainmail appears as one word in gaming contexts, where it remains a common armor type.
