The goal line is the boundary at each end of a playing field that a ball or player must cross to score.
In American football, the plane of the goal line extends vertically—a ball breaking the plane counts as a touchdown: He stretched the ball across the goal line.
In soccer and hockey, the ball or puck must fully cross the line into the goal.
