golden goal
Instant overtime winner
A golden goal is a goal scored during extra time in a soccer match that immediately ends the game, giving victory to the scoring team.
The rule was used in major tournaments during the 1990s and early 2000s but has since been abandoned in favor of playing full extra-time periods.
France won Euro 2000 on a golden goal.
