touchdowns

Six-point plays

Touchdowns are scoring plays in American and Canadian football, worth six points, achieved by carrying or catching the ball in the opponent's end zone.

The term comes from rugby, where the ball must touch the ground to score—a requirement football dropped but the name kept.

Figuratively, a touchdown is any successful completion: The product launch was a touchdown for the team.
