two-point conversion

Post-score gamble play

A two-point conversion is a play in American football where a team that has just scored a touchdown attempts to advance the ball into the end zone again from the two-yard line, earning two points instead of the single point from a kick.

Teams often attempt it when trailing late in a game: They went for the two-point conversion but failed.
