gaffer

Film lighting chief

A gaffer is the chief electrician on a film or television set, responsible for lighting design and execution.

In British informal usage, gaffer means boss or foreman: Ask the gaffer if we can leave early.

British speakers also use gaffer affectionately for an old man, especially in rural contexts.

In sports, particularly British football, the gaffer is the team manager.
