lampworking

Flame-shaping glass rods

Lampworking is a glassworking technique that uses a torch or lamp flame to melt and shape glass rods and tubes.

The artisan heats the glass until malleable, then manipulates it with hand tools to create beads, figurines, vessels, or scientific apparatus.

The name comes from the oil lamps originally used as heat sources.

Also called flameworking or torchworking.
