container deposit
Recyclable packaging fee
A container deposit is money paid when purchasing a bottled or canned beverage, refunded when the empty container is returned for recycling.
The system incentivizes recycling and reduces litter: I saved up my cans to get the container deposit back.
Also called bottle deposit.
