fulcrum
Lever's turning point
A fulcrum is the pivot point on which a lever rests and rotates.
In physics, it's the fixed point that makes mechanical advantage possible—the closer the fulcrum to the load, the less force needed to lift it.
Figuratively, a fulcrum is any central point around which things turn or balance: The election became the fulcrum of the whole campaign.
